Candy Corn

After the success of our documentary with Rob Zombie and Lionsgate, we had some interesting opportunities presented to us. The one that seemed to have the most traction and would be the most fun was this little passion project of an idea called “Candy Corn.” The objective was simple: make a micro-budget independent thriller that throws back to the 1980s slasher films we grew up with and loved.

The result is something none of us could have anticipated. What started as a passion project among friends quickly became an unexpected success, albeit critically divisive. With a budget of only $250,000, we were able to assemble an iconic cast including Courtney Gains (Children of the Corn), P.J. Soles (Halloween, Carrie), Tony Todd (Candyman), and newcomer Pancho Moler (Rob Zombie's 31 and 3 From Hell). The intermittent production occurred over two and a half years between Ohio and California.

Just three months after production wrapped, the film was acquired by Epic Pictures for distribution in the U.S. and Sony Home Video internationally. Candy Corn premiered to a sold-out crowd at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood, CA, in September 2019. Following the world premiere was a national theatrical release in around 700 theaters and an international Bluray and VOD release. Candy Corn was on Amazon's and iTunes' bestseller lists for nearly two months after its release.

Following the film's success, Josh Hasty brokered licensing deals with genre merchandise companies, Fright-Rags, and Trick or Treat Studios, who continue to manufacture and sell Candy Corn costumes, merchandise, and toys with retailers worldwide.

The film's score, composed by Relavox's Michael Brooker and Josh Hasty, received a vinyl pressing at Abbey Road Studios and was released internationally.

In addition to handling pre-production, production, and post-production of Candy Corn, Relavox also produced a two-hour-long intensive behind-the-scenes documentary following the two-year-long process of making the film. Josh Hasty collaborated with photographers Justin Wysong and Julia Rose to create a limited edition hardcover book that chronicles the making of the film.
